Managing and optimising your well-being isn’t necessarily a very straightforward or simple thing to do. More often than not, it takes a fair amount of work, diligence, and endurance. But there are always things that you can do on a daily basis to make things a bit better, and other paths you could have taken that would have made things worse.

Here are a few simple things you can do each day to increase your sense of well-being.

1. Explore some holistic health practices

Well-established holistic health practices, such as a visit to the acupuncturist, or a commitment to doing regular yoga workouts, are good partly because they don’t come with the assorted side effects that different forms of medication do.

Also, unless you are dealing with some risky fringe pursuits – they will tend to focus on lifestyle practices that help you to feel your best, and to have as much energy as possible, while taking all the various dimensions of your life into account (hence “holistic.”)

Holistic health practices are generally the kinds of things that you can include in your everyday routines. Those holistic practices that involve physical exercise, in particular, are especially useful to do on a daily basis.

things you can do to improve your wellbeing

Get in the habit of identifying one small thing you can do each day that will make things a little bit better – and then do it

It’s difficult to increase your sense of well-being, if you simultaneously feel that nothing around you is improving, and that you are not moving things in a generally more positive direction.

On the other hand, when you do feel that you are moving things in a more positive direction, on a routine basis, you are likely to find that you quickly begin to feel somewhat better.

It’s not always possible to make dramatic changes on a regular basis, that set your whole life on the right track. But you can always identify one small thing that you could do each day, that would make things just a little bit better. And, once you’ve identified it, you can do it.

This could be something as small as doing your laundry, vacuuming the floor, or making an appointment to hang out with friends.

Schedule your days in advance

When you are struggling with a low sense of well-being, it can be difficult to motivate yourself to get out of bed in the morning, never mind to have a productive day, and to act in a way that consistently makes things better.

This can then lead to a sense of hopelessness, and helplessness, which just makes everything worse.

To counteract this sensation, try scheduling your days in advance. Set a standard wake up time, and decide what it is you’re doing that day. Don’t be too harsh with how you schedule your time – but imposing some structure on things.
