According to the statistics, approximately 284 million people in the world suffer from stress and anxiety. The reason is that people don’t address their emotions and thought patterns. Eventually, these emotions become overwhelming and start affecting daily life.

Unfortunately, there is no specific test that can help diagnose mental illness. Even medical professionals or counsellors try to understand the symptoms of poor mental health and take steps accordingly.

Sleep schedule is off

According to the NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), sleeping and mental health have a direct relation. Both create a vicious circle that can turn the bad condition into worse. In simple terms, poor mental health affects the sleep cycle and also the quality of sleep. And when you don’t complete your rest, it results in irritation and anger, which affects your mental health.

Sometimes, stress, workload, or caffeine can be the reason behind irregular sleep. It can improve with exercise, yoga, and changing diet. But if your sleeping schedule is still not improving, then it is a warning sign that you must take it seriously.

Change in appetite

Do you often feel too hungry, while sometimes it is difficult for you to eat even a single bite? If your answer is Yes, then it could be a matter of concern. Sudden change in eating habits is also one of the signs of poor mental health. It is directly related to conditions like depression and anxiety.

But the change could also be due to menstruation or a shift in surroundings. Therefore, if your eating pattern is not getting back to normal quickly, you should consult the doctor.

Ongoing irritability and impatience

The sudden shift in your behaviour from normal to impatient or angry could be because you are not addressing your emotions properly. There might be some things that are bothering you, such as family issues, relationship trouble, or work performance. But instead of resolving them, you are leaving it for “later.” Which might trigger impatience and irritability.

Furthermore, such scenarios can result in burnout or lead to “Self-harm” thoughts. It is a sign of depression and anxiety disorders, and you must take steps toward healing with the help of counseling. If left untreated, the situation might get worse.

Isolation is crucial for self-care, especially if you are an introvert. You need to recharge your batteries and prepare your mind to interact with people. Moreover, it helps in regulating thoughts and staying calm.

Unless you are asexual, having sexual desires is completely normal. But not all the time. There can be scenarios where you are just too tired and need a good night’s sleep. Or, you feel like the spark is no longer there.

However, if your sex drive is drastically declining or you feel like it has become nonexistent, maybe you need to talk about it. There could be a physiological reason behind it. But, it can impact both physical and mental health.

Alcohol addiction

Alcohol helps numb the emotions and make everything feel good. However, it is just an illusion and not at all good for your health. It interferes with the chemicals present in the brain and makes the bad condition worse. Therefore, if you drink or smoke, you need to stop that instantly.

Mental health is not something that should be ignored. If not treated on time, it can affect the functioning of the body as well. Nonetheless, with the symptoms mentioned above, you can pay attention to them. Moreover, if you observe any behavior or dietary change, consult the doctor or counselor immediately.
