Getting your budget all wrong

When moving home, you first have to go through the process of finding the right property, and money is a huge element of that. So you may have found that you have spent time daydreaming about some of the properties you would like to buy, but are they in your budget?

A huge problem is really not understanding the total outgoing that a house will cost. Most of the time a house ownership process involves a monthly payment, so take some time to research this and check out home loan calculator to ensure that the budget you have set for the overall cost of the property, is going to be affordable.

This is essential not just when buying the house you want to live in, but it could also work in your favour when it comes to buying a property abroad. Which brings me nicely on to my next mishap that can have an issue with.

Not understanding rules and regulations when you are buying somewhere

One of the biggest things people can mistake is when they are buying in another country. People can do this when they have decided to emigrate for careers or a better quality of life, or it may be an additional property as a holiday home.

Which, of course, can then be seen a big investment for the future. There may be different rules and regulations for certain countries. You may need to have a bank history with them in that country before buying. Or you may need a larger deposit.

Not to mention things like visas and even residencies before being able to buy. People can think buying abroad can be an easy option, but it can actually be quite complicated if you don’t know the potential pitfalls.

When you are moving across the country

Moving is never easy anyway, we know that, and buying abroad could be one uphill battle you don’t want to face. But that doesn’t mean that you may not take into account moving across the country to another part of the country you are from.

Perhaps moving states or changing from the Northern part to the Southern or another part. So you can imagine that making this move might as well be moving to another country or buying abroad and it can be a huge problem for some.

It may even just be a different city or the next town along, but it can feel miles away if it is a complete new adventure for you and your family. It’s a daunting prospect anyway, without incurring problems. But with a big move like this comes issues that sometimes they just can’t be helped.

To ensure things like these run smoothly the removal companies can often take some of the stress out of moving in any fair distance. Taking on the transport side of things, the removal of furniture and also the packing side of things.

These people know what they are talking about and can take some of the stress out of moving. So relax and focus on the job in hand.

When your packing has been left to the last minute

Okay, one thing that many of us can agree upon is the hassle that is packing. Which is why so many people enlist the help of removal companies to take the stress out of packing and the whole heavy lifting side of things.

But, not everyone can afford these options and so with your move date getting even closer, and you don’t even know where to start with your packing, then you may be really stressing out over the process.

Don’t panic, though. You won’t be the only person who will have left this till the last minute. While it may feel like an overwhelming task to pack up an entire house, with a little organization you can get things packed up in no time at all.

Take a moment to take stock of your situation and work out what you need to do. Write a list and prioritize where to start. A great tip would be to rope in the help of friends and family as we all know that more hands make lighter work. You just need to take that decision to start, once you do the rest will follow.

Another great tip for packing is to pack your old house up with your new house in mind. This will help at the other end as boxes can then be left in the room they need to be unpacked in.

It is also a good idea to start decluttering your home and getting rid of any unwanted things. Even utilizing sites like eBay to make a bit extra for the moving fund.

Helpers not showing up

You may think that you are completely organized but then at the last moment those helpers you were relying on back out or have other issues of their own, sound familiar?

While it is a situation that can’t be helped you just need to take control. Your move will happen with or without them. Be it you get some other people to help out, or you get in touch with a removal company. The best thing you can do is not to panic about the situation.

Not packing essentials that are easily accessible

Let’s be honest, moving is going to be hard work, so the last thing you want to do is turn up to your new home and not even be able to make yourself a drink or a nice cup of tea, am I right?

But many people forget to pack a box that you can get unpacked straight away. These tend to include essentials that will see you through for the day and the night. A kettle and a toaster would be recommended.

You could also pack things like painkillers, tea, and coffee. Even spare clothes, evening items and plasters. Whatever you think you may need for that first 24 hours, pack it in an easily accessible box.

I hope the advice helps you if you find yourself in any of those situations when moving home.
