Maintaining Your Overall Wellbeing At Different Stages Of Motherhood

When you become a parent, you automatically prioritise your little ones. They become your world and you want what’s best for them at all times. It’s not all too surprising that many of us begin to put our own needs on the backburner.

But it’s extremely important that you do make a conscious effort to maintain your own health and wellbeing at all times too. No matter how busy you may be with providing childcare! This will help to ensure that you are well as well as your child.

But where can you start out? Well, if you’re feeling lost, don’t worry. Here are just a few different steps that you can take to ensure that you are fit and well throughout different stages of motherhood!

Nutrition

Of course, you’re not likely to want to head straight back into the gym or sign up for group sports as soon as you’ve given birth. You’re going to want to allow yourself a fair bit of recovery time. But you do need to take this opportunity to at least make sure that you are eating properly during this period.

Many mothers find that they neglect their own diet and nutrition while caring for a newborn infant. Taking care of a baby can be extremely stressful and time consuming and many will forgo eating for the sake of a little extra rest. But it is absolutely essential that you provide your body with the nutrients that it needs to function well.

If you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be in the optimum state to care for your little one! So, make sure that you are getting a balanced diet. Fill your plate up with grains, pulses, greens, calcium, and protein. You also need to make sure that you are staying hydrated. Aim to drink between six and eight glasses of fresh water every single day!

Exercising With Your Little Ones

It can be relatively difficult to incorporate exercise into your routine when you have little ones. But remember that you can engage in a number of activities with your kids that provide you all with a thorough workout. This is beneficial for all of you! Here are some ideas to get you off to a good start!

  • Evening Walks – Whether you have a family pet to walk or not, try incorporating evening walks into everyone’s routine. This will help to ensure that you all get an opportunity to head out into a green open space and stretch your legs.
  • Gardening If you are green fingered, your backyard needs a once over, or you’re simply looking for something interesting to try out, you should use gardening to your advantage.  Gardening involves a whole lot of physical activity. You have to walk about a lot, ferrying tools and watering cans to and fro. You need to pull weeds. You need to stretch, dig, push, and pull. What’s more? Your little ones will eagerly help you along the way. Not only can you get out of puff, but you’ll have a beautiful yard to show for your physical efforts at the end of it all!

Exercising Independently

While exercising with kids can be great, if you’re really looking to get into shape, tone up, increase muscle, and boost your stamina, you are going to have to engage in proper workouts. Find out more about different exercises that can gain different results at MomsIntoFitness.com.

Generally speaking, joining a local gym is going to be the easiest and most convenient way to get your fix of exercise. You can head in as and when you please and if you are particularly organised, you can attend set classes!

With your membership, you will gain access to all of the machinery and equipment that you could possibly need to achieve your overall fitness goals. When you join up, make sure to undertake an induction, where members of staff will be able to familiarise you with different types of machinery and equipment and ensure that you know how to operate them safely.

how to maintain your wellbeing as a mom

Some different exercise machines that you may find yourself coming into contact with include:

Treadmill

A treadmill is perhaps the most commonly used piece of exercise machinery in the world. It is also perhaps the first thing that springs to mind when you think of the gym. You can run, jog, or walk on it, depending on the speed that you set it at. Of course, you could carry these exercises out outside. But do you really want to face the elements when you could get the same workout in a comfortable gym?

Cross Trainer

Cross trainers, or “elliptical cross trainers” give you a similar workout to walking, jogging, or running (depending on the speed that you use them). But they tend to be a little more gentle on your joints. You can also engage your arms on them, getting a more full body workout. They particularly target your quads, hamstrings, glutes, lats, and pecs.

Static Bicycle

Cycling is another common form of exercise that can be improved by carrying it out indoors within the gym. You get the full workout of a cycling trip while remaining warm and dry.

Stair Machine

If you aim to tone up your buttocks and thighs, you should try out a step machine or a stair machine. These are essentially just what they sound like. They mimic the movement of climbing stairs or hiking up a steep incline. If you want, you can get a little adventurous and try different step styles – lunges, squat steps, side steps, and other techniques can work out different areas of your body.

There are plenty of other fitness accessories and pieces of fitness equipment besides machines in the average gym. You should make use of these too!

Dumbbells and Kettlebells

Many of us stray away from using weights, as we’re unfamiliar with them. We’re not sure what to do with them and we worry about seeming weak if we use the lightest option. But remember that nobody at the gym is there to judge you. You can start small and work your way up! Dumbbells and kettlebells are forms of free weights that you can use in weight training. Use them to build muscle in your arms, or you could even hold them while doing squats to build thigh muscles.

Medicine Balls

These are weighted balls. They tend to have a diameter of just under 14 inches and they come in a variety of different weights. Use them to add extra weight to your workout rather than simply using your own body weight. Use them while doing squats or sit ups!

Exercise Balls

Many people tend to mix up medicine balls and exercise balls, despite the fact they’re completely different pieces of equipment. An exercise ball is a large inflated ball. It is lightweight and can be used to stretch out or sit on while carrying out other exercises. They can significantly improve your balance!

Personal Trainers

If you find that you are experiencing difficulty in maintaining your exercise regime despite your best intentions and best efforts, you might want to consider investing in personal training. This involves getting in touch with a personal trainer and accepting their help in achieving your fitness goals.

It is essential to ensure that the personal trainer you choose has completed all their PT courses and holds the necessary qualifications. This guarantees that they possess the knowledge and skills required to provide you with a safe, effective, and tailored exercise programme.

Generally speaking, people who work out under the supervision of a personal trainer tend to achieve better results. Why? Well, first of all, these people know what they’re doing. They can create a fitness plan and allocate a time scale that will help you to see results. Paying for a service also means you are more likely to commit to attending sessions rather than deciding to give them a miss. If you don’t turn up, you’ll have to actually explain yourself to someone.

Being supervised while training also has extra benefits besides knowing you are doing each exercise correctly. It means that you have to do your set reps and routine. You can’t just cut things short when you start feeling a little tired!

Sure, it may be difficult to prioritise your health and wellbeing around the demands of family life. You may not be able to fit exercise into your plans every day. But it’s important that you make an active effort to at least try to fit exercise into your routine at some point or another. This will help to keep you in shape and ensure that you are healthy and well at all times! Hopefully, the above advice will help you to achieve this!
