How To Prepare For A Cross Country Move

Preparing for any move is going to be a stressful and busy time that certainly takes a lot of time and requires a good deal of preparation, but this can be even more so the case when moving across the country.

So if you’re getting ready to move across the country then in this post we’re going to share with you some of the ways that you can prepare in order to make the move a good bit easier and less stressful overall so that you can hopefully start to enjoy some of the move instead of feeling completely stressed about it.

Know what you’re doing with your current place:

Although this may seem like a completely obvious point to make it’s very important to know what you’re going to be doing with your current house before you move or before you sign any agreements. Otherwise you could run the risk of having two rental agreements or two mortgages to pay which isn’t really going to be the best way to start off a new life somewhere else. So whether you need to hand back keys to a landlord or you need to sell the place or even rent it out for a while, then it’s just important that you have a plan for your current place before you move.

Have a clear out:

Not only is having a lot of clutter around something that’s stressful at the best of times, but when you’re trying to move house and you have stuff that you don’t need, don’t want and don’t use lying around then it’s really going to just do nothing but get in your way and it could be much better served by being donated to charity, sold or even just thrown out if it’s not going to be any good to anyone.

So taking some time to have a bit of a clear out before you get ready to move will not only make things better in terms of getting rid of things that you don’t actually need. But it’s going to make your move a lot easier since you have less to take with you and unpack at the new place.

Decide how you’re going to move:

Depending on where it is you’re to moving across the country you might want to look at hiring the best movers you can find who are equipped on dealing with long haul moves across the country. Or you may decide to put your stuff into storage if you’re only going to be gone for a few months. Or alternatively you may even want to sell the stuff and get rid of it completely and get new stuff at the new place. It really all depends on where you’re moving and how long you going to be gone for.

Make a plan for the family:

A move across country is definitely going to be slightly more difficult than moving within your own town or city. So if you’re moving, for example with children, or have a family then perhaps a good idea would be for one of you to go ahead and set up at the new place and then have your partner with the children following a few days later. This could be less stressful for everyone and just make things a bit easier.
