3 Important Decisions You Have To Make When Designing A Bathroom

People tend to underestimate just how much thought goes into a bathroom design. On the face of it, it seems quite simple. You just need to choose a shower, toilet, sink, some tiles and you’re done. But when it comes down to it, designing a bathroom is actually quite hard.

It’s a relatively small space so you need to make sure that you’re making good use of every inch so the bathroom is functional as well as stylish. If you’re about to design a bathroom for the first time, here is a quick guide to all of the essential decisions that you need to make.

Toilet

Choosing a toilet doesn’t seem that hard because they’re all quite similar, you just need to pick the handles that you want on there. But actually, there are a lot of different options here and each one is best suited to a different type of bathroom.

For example, a floating toilet is a great choice if you’ve got a smaller bathroom because it opens up a bit more floor space. It also makes the bathroom way easier to clean because you don’t have to deal with that frustrating area behind the toilet that is hard to reach.

However, a floating toilet isn’t always possible, depending on your plumbing. So you’ll need to check first and possibly make some alterations which is another expense to consider.

As well as choosing between a normal toilet and a floating one, you also have to think about water usage. Cheaper toilets might seem like the most economical choice but in the long run, they might not be. They use a lot more water than a more expensive, low flush one. So, if you’re worried about your water usage, it’s best to spend a bit more money on a more economical one.

Vanities

The vanity is the focal point of the bathroom so you need to be very careful when you’re choosing it. There are all sorts of different types of vanities that you can go for so make sure to consider all of your options.

If you’ve got a small bathroom, you’re better off with a corner one that will take up less space. You could also consider a floating one as well. However, you don’t just need to think about the floor space that you’re using, you need to consider storage as well.

A small floating vanity in the corner might take up less space but it’ll have next to no storage. If you can fit other storage solutions in elsewhere, that’s fine. If not, you should try to fit a bigger vanity in if you can.

Tiles

Choosing tiles is a lot harder than people think and picking wrong is one of the most common bathroom design mistakes that people make. A single tile on its own looks very different to an entire wall that’s covered in them, so keep that in mind. It’s also worth thinking about how you’re going to clean them when mold and mildew build up on the grout. If you’ve got lots of tiny tiles, they’re way harder to keep clean than a few larger ones.

Make sure that you think long and hard about these decisions and you can ensure that your bathroom design is perfect.
